Episode 65 – Long Overdue Update

episode65.jpeg

Hey everyone. Thanks for writing and for all of the comments and support. I figured it was well overdue and time for me to provide an update for what has been going on. In this episode, I take some time to address the gaps, give a brief update on our lives and adventures, and explain why things have been taking so long. We talk a bit about the last year and what’s changed and what is to come. Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for the update! I stumbled on your podcast spring of 2009 and listened to all of them back to back in a couple days and was so sad when i got to the end. Been checking findingjapan.com weekly since then, and its definatly great to hear from you.

  2. I’m so happy that you’re back podcasting. We all missed you and your personal insights on life in Japan. I still play back old episodes but now I have something new to look forward to. Keep up the good work!

  3. Thanks for the new show! I recently stumbled upon your podcast, and am listening through the arcihves (up to about Ep. 37) but was SUPER psyched when a new show came down off the feed. If you change the feed for your new show, please make sure you announce on the current one so all of us that are still subscribed can make the switch.

  4. Thank you. Was very excited when I saw it downloading on I-Tunes .
My takeaway is that you are still planning on a new Japan podcast — really have enjoyed Finding Japan so I look forward to the new one. Don’t rush it into production — keep your standards and do it when you’re ready! Finding Japan was great — coincided with my own trip to Japan in the summer of 2008 and I appreciated and related to the sense of surprise and fascination you expressed throughout. Interesting that some of that is now gone for you. Hope you and Linda are well and still finding Japan to be interestng!

  5. Hey! It was awesome to hear another podcast after such a long while. I’m looking forward to more episodes and the new podcasts. Please keep us updated on all of your adventures in Japan. I lived in Okinawa for three years from 2000-2003 and would love to hear an update on how its doing. Keep up the good work!

  6. yay ur bak! ur podcasts gives me so much insight on how to get along in japan, and just….everything that nids to be known when going there! im going there for a year next year! possibly Yamanashi or Yokohama ahaha

  7. Good to hear from you again. Your podcast was an interesting insight to Japan’s life and a rather entertaining way to experience the asian quirkiness through a westerner’s eyes. I work for the financial industry, we visit Tokyo frequently on business and i must admit i found myself listening to your podcasts during flights much more often than music or anything else, so thanks for that, much appreciated. A lot of people i work with share the opinion.

We were all disappointed when you changed the video files from mpeg-4 to quicktime.
Across the company we use corporate issued Blackberries and MPEG4 played with no issues. Quicktime (mov) though is not supported on the Blackberry and i know people that stopped pulling the RSS feed because of that. I stayed on but it’s rather disappointing to pull files you cannot watch on the handset.

If it’s not much to ask it would be hugely appreciated if even now you could mass transcode all your video files to MPEG4 and generate a feed. You could name it a Blackberry-friendly feed and i could help spread the word of its existence. You would make a few people very happy.

    Have a good day. 🙂
